Green New Year’s Resolutions

Posted by Adam Merran on Jan 7th 2014

This New Year’s beginning gives you a chance to take good resolutions. Of course you have the classic resolutions – such as eating healthier, exercising more, quitting smoking, and so on – but you can do better by also “greening” your resolutions. How so?

happy new year

Well first of all, eating healthier also means eating better. Eat greener by buying organic food, and buy local whenever possible. Not only is it better for your body but also for the environment!

When it comes to water, you should consider stopping buying bottled water or at least reducing your consumption. About 25% of bottled water comes from the same place as tap water anyway and by drinking tap water your will save money and help reducing the waste that comes from all those bottles thrown away every day. Same for paper towels! Cut back and start using cloth alternatives. It is just as easy, will save you money and will reduce the waste.

If you are trying to reduce your carbon footprint, another easy and extremely efficient way to do so is simply to use reusable shopping bags whenever you go shopping! Over 1 million plastic bags go to the trash every minute and using reusable bags could solve that problem… The hardest part is simply to remember to bring them with you when you go shopping, it could be worse!

Now I know the weather is getting pretty cold recently but try to only use your car when you really don’t have a choice. Using public transportation or biking to go to work every day actually helps you to save money, makes you exercise – which might be one of your new year’s resolution – and is a lot better for the environment. Think about it!

See, even though objectives related to health may be on top of your resolutions list, it is important to keep in mind that any green resolution you take could have a big impact on your life and on the environment

Good luck with keeping up with your resolutions!
