Reusable Tableware Vs. Disposable Tableware

Posted by Adam Merran on Sep 23rd 2013

For all events, whether it is a wedding reception, a catering event or a party, you have to book a venue and you need to be aware that plenty of them don’t provide dishes.

When it comes to tableware, caterers have to make two very important decisions: are they going to go for reusable or disposable tableware, and, if they choose to get reusable ones, should they rent or buy them. It seems like a simple question but it is definitely not the easiest decision to take and that is why we are going to talk about the different options and go through their pros and cons in order to figure out the most economical option.

ambiance-bio&chic-banner-sizeBuying reusable dishes is an attractive option because it’s an investment for the future. Of course you only have to spend money once and you can then reuse them but it is still definitely the most expensive option! Not only you are going to spend a lot of money but keep in mind that you will also have to wash the dishes after use, and I am not even talking about the fact that accidents happen and you will have to deal with it. Those are often things you want to avoid, especially if you are organizing events on a regular basis.

What about renting reusable tableware? Cheaper than buying, it will save you the trouble of cleaning afterwards since most places don’t ask for them to come back clean. But think about it, it is still quite expensive and kind of a waste of money since you will not get anything back from it, and you will still have to deal with broken or stolen items…

If you don’t want to deal with broken plates and stolen utensils, the best solution is obviously to use disposables. Not only it is by far the cheapest option, but you also won’t have to worry about anything after the event since you can just throw them away. Disposable tableware has the image of being cheap-looking and bad for the environment and it is an image you don’t want to be associated with but contrary to common beliefs disposables can be very classy and elegant looking and also eco-friendly!

COUVERTS_1-banner-sizeHow so? Let me elaborate. Disposables can be made of many different materials and some of them are very eco-friendly! From Bamboo Leaf to Palm Leaf through Sugarcane, you can always find biodegradable or compostable items and make sure you respect the environment. Unlike plastic tableware, sugarcane, bamboo and palm leaf plate also look very design and elegant. Pick the shape and style you want and just enjoy the ease of using disposable dishes. It’s definitely going to save you money, time and trouble!
